Acne Prevention Methods and Medications

Acne prevention is the key to battling acne because prevention methods can keep it from showing up in the first place. As for how you’re going to prevent it, you’re going to do such things as eat right, exercise, and keep your skin clean. Those are the keys to battling acne. But sometimes prevention methods are not 100%, so you have to have the right medications in place in order to really make sure the problem is kept at bay.

When you’ve exercised your prevention methods, such as exercising, cleaning your face twice per day, and staying away from fatty and oily foods, you need to know what medications will also do the job. Those medications include:

  • Benzoyl Peroxide – When preventing and treating acne, Benzoyl peroxide tends to be a product of choice. It can be used in mild cleansers to prevent acne and it can be used in hard core cleansers.

  • Salicylic acid – Salicylic acid is also a medication that is used in some cleansers to battle acne. It is known for cleansing and drying out the contents of the acne cysts and pimples.

The use of these cleansers in addition to a healthy lifestyle can do quite a bit in acne prevention. However, many people have acne and it is not because their hygiene is bad or that they are leading terrible lifestyles. Many times they are just susceptible to the bacteria that causes acne or their sebaceous glands simply produce too much sebum, which is what you find inside pimples and acne cysts. If this is the case, a dermatologist may decide to use a different type of prescription medication or they may opt for surgery. But most of the time, healthy prevention methods will take care of the issues before it can start.
