How to Prevent Skin Tags

Unfortunately, there is no real way to prevent skin tags. Skin tags are not caused by certain foods, exposure to the sun, or genetic reasons. However, for the most part, if you have developed a skin tag in the past, you are likely to develop more in the future.  There are two ways in which you can stop friction from occurring, which, in turn, may decrease your chance of getting skin tags and decrease the irritation caused by already developed skin tags.

• For one, if you are overweight, you can try to change your diet and lifestyle to shed some of those extra pounds. Being overweight causes a lot of health related problems other than just simply the development of skin tags. However, the excess skin causes rubbing against your clothing and other skin which can cause skin tags. When you do exercise, make sure you wear loose fitted clothing to stop any friction. It’s important to stay active, eat a balanced diet and maintain an average weight not just for the prevention of skin tags, but for the future of your health as well.

• Another way you may be able to prevent skin tags from becoming irritated is by staying away from tight fitted clothing and jewelry around your skin tags. If you notice that your jewelry is itching or causing a rash in certain areas, it’s a good idea to take it off. Furthermore, if your clothes are too tight, especially when you exercise and sweat, then you will cause friction to occur which can create skin tags.
It’s important to always remember the following four things about skin tags:
1) They are extremely common
2) They are not dangerous, not painful and non cancerous
3) They do not need removal in most cases
4) And, finally, skin tags are simply skin; they are nothing more; they are nothing less; and, most importantly, they are nothing to be ashamed of.
