Dysport Injections

Dysport

Laughing, frowning and squinting are few of the many facial expressions used. But as people age the skin loses elasticity leaving marks of frowns and squints on the face. Unwanted lines and marks become remarkably noticeable even at the early years of adulthood and these marks may be brought about even faster by pollution and stress.

Dysport, a protein taken from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum can help smooth out these unwanted lines. It is a non-surgical treatment where a few injections are administered to the patient’s facial muscles. It is a simple and effective procedure that only takes about 20 minutes. It relaxes facial muscles especially those in the forehead.

Dysport – A Little History

Dysport was developed for purposes of treating a few neurological and ophthalmic conditions. It was reported to have been initially used for motor problems and other muscular dysfunctions like cerebral palsy. It was also used to treat neuromuscular disorders.

But now, Dysport has  been approved by the FDA to treat forehead wrinkles and frown lines as well. The FDA also approved Dysport as a treatment to cervical dystonia. This goes to show that Dysport is an advantage to society.

How to Administer Dysport?

A small amount of Dysport is injected to the facial muscle underlying the frown lines. A couple of injections must be administered for a more effective treatment. This procedure is almost painless that there is no need for anesthesia.

It will take a couple of days before the muscles fully relax and recover from the treatment. Contraction of facial muscles will then be difficult, thus no frown lines will develop. Despite this, no visible signs of the procedure will surface since other voluntary movements can still be performed like movement of the eyebrows.

Dysport – Some Benefits

Signs of aging such as wrinkles and other etches on the face do not only affect appearance but self-esteem as well. With Dysport, wrinkles and frown lines are erased. Men and women alike can now look younger, relaxed and confident.

Dysport – Some Risks?

Side effects and allergic reactions rarely occur with Dysport. But for these rare cases the following are the common side effects:

  • Temporary soreness in the injected area
  • Mild bruising in the injected area
  • “Ptosis” or drooping eyelids
  • Skin rash
  • Slight headache – This may last for several hours after the treatment. A mild pain killer may be taken to relieve the pain.

It is therefore important for patients to consult doctors before pushing through with the procedure. Those who wish to undergo Dysport treatment but have bad medical history must discuss issues with a medical professional to avoid complications.

Dysport does not serve as a permanent treatment for frown lines and other skin imperfections. It can only last for as long as 6 months. Another session must be made if there is a desire to erase unwanted lines that develop after.

Aging is inevitable but there are ways to fight it. After all, having a good appearance speaks much of the quality of one’s lifestyle.
