Wrinkles

Skin Aging and Wrinkles – What are Wrinkles, How do they Form, What can we do to stop and mask them?

Wrinkles are those crevices that form in the face around the mouth and the eyes. They later extend to other areas of the face as we age. It is true that they are a normal part of aging and some of us may have a little bit of difficulty with that.

The formation of wrinkles is rather interesting. When we are young, our skin does a fantastic job of holding in moisture and stretching the way that it is supposed to. The elastin that is in the dermis helps the skin have its youthful qualities. Collagen is also a protein in the dermis that holds everything together.

But over time, the dermis loses both the collagen and the elastin, causing the skin to thin out. When it gets thin, it has a hard time holding in moisture. Even the fat in the face starts to disappear and this causes the epidermis to sag. It is this sagging that causes wrinkles to form.

The best way to keep wrinkles from forming is to take great care of the skin. Doing such things as spending less time in the sunlight, not smoking, drinking plenty of water, keeping your skin clean, and moisturizing frequently. Keeping the moisture in your skin will help you retain your skin’s moisture much longer in life. Since it can’t hold it naturally, it needs a little help.

As far as masking them, there are treatments, but not everyone is into cosmetic procedures, such as Botox. There are cosmetics out there that reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that have formed. In addition to taking care of the skin, wrinkles don’t have to be visible. They can be concealed and a person can look 10 to 20 years younger than what they are.

So take care of your skin and notice the difference that it makes when wrinkles should start becoming a part of your life.
